Behind the scenes

The Challenge

How do you turn something mundane (like silverware containers) into something that feels meaningful, comforting, and personal? And how do you do it 150 times — quickly and within budget?

This project pushed me to get scrappy and intentional with both materials and messaging. It had to be doable, but also heartfelt.

Goals & Objectives

My goals were to encourage emotional well-being and self-care for families, use recycled materials in a creative and resourceful way, and make and deliver 150 kits on a short timeline — without breaking the budget.

Process & Ideation

I kicked things off with a little research into what helps people pause, breathe, and reset. I thought about simple moments — a cup of tea, a calming scent, a thoughtful note.

That led me to a stress kit formula that felt personal and grounding: affirmation cards with kind, encouraging messages, essential oil blends in easy-to-use roll-ons, herbal teas for calm and warmth, and a mini journal or prompt card for

reflection.

Visual & Material Design

I cleaned and rewrapped the silverware containers to give them a whole new vibe. I also designed labels and inserts with soft colors and textures that felt soothing. Finally, I arranged each element to feel intentional and easy to use.

Assembly & Distribution

With help from the daycare staff, we assembled all 150 kits by hand — wrapping, filling, and packing each one with care. They were distributed during a wellness event, and families were genuinely touched by the thoughtfulness.

Outcome

The kits became more than just a giveaway — they sparked real joy. People told us how meaningful the little details were. It was a reminder that even small, intentional gestures can make a big impact.

Reflection

This project taught me that design doesn’t always have to be flashy to be powerful. With a little creativity (and a lot of heart), you can turn everyday objects into something memorable, beautiful, and healing.

The Stress Relief Kit

Project: Stress Relief Kit Initiative
Role: Designer + Assembler
Medium: Physical Product (Upcycled Containers)

As part of a wellness initiative at the daycare center, I was given a creative challenge: turn everyday silverware containers into calming, feel-good stress relief kits for families. The goal? Something that made people smile, breathe deeper, and feel cared for.

Here’s what went into each kit: herbal tea, a peppermint roll-on, and a little affirmation tucked into a repurposed silverware tin.

“Today start your day with a smile, calmness, and a heart filled with gratitude.” A small but powerful message to start the day with purpose.

To stretch our budget, I bought one large bottle of peppermint oil and filled smaller glass roll-ons by hand. It made the kits feel cohesive — and gave each one that signature spa-like scent.

Peppermint Oil Portioning

One of the biggest challenges? Making everything fit. These containers were tiny! Every item had to be sized just right. Portioning the oil and arranging it neatly was a bit of a puzzle, but in the end, it worked beautifully.
